About dr Greenberg
Dr. Greenberg is a licensed psychologist who is dedicated to providing quality psychological services focused on empowering individuals and strengthening relationships. She has worked in a variety of settings, including residential treatment centers, a psychiatric hospital, an emergency room, outpatient therapy and evaluation clinics, schools, nonprofit organizations, and private practice. In her private practice, she offers individual, play, and family psychotherapy for those who are experiencing psychological distress, and specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. Dr. Greenberg utilizes a combination of cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal therapy techniques. However, most important to her is establishing a strong therapeutic relationship -- one built on trust and a sense of safety. Her goal is to help you relieve distress, gain insight, learn and utilize healthy coping skills, and ultimately, become your own therapist.
Along with psychotherapy services, Dr. Greenberg also performs psychological evaluations. At times, individuals experience difficulties that require assessment to facilitate understanding and/or clarify a diagnosis. Based on initial questions, a comprehensive evaluation will be completed regarding cognitive, academic, attentional, and/or emotional functioning.

About Therapy
Therapy involves a large commitment of time, energy, and money, so it is wise to put a lot of consideration into the psychologist you select. There are many different methods that may be used to help you cope with and resolve the difficulties you wish to address. These methods vary depending upon the personalities of the psychologist and client, and the particular problems you bring forward. Typically, in the first few sessions, the psychologist will gather as much information as possible regarding the problem(s) you wish to resolve. First impressions and the “best course of action” will be discussed. Evaluate the information you are provided, along with your own opinions and comfort level. If you have any questions or concerns, voice them as they arise. If you decide you are not a good “therapist/client match,” ask for referrals to other mental health professionals.
Once you have selected a psychologist, you will typically meet for a 45 to 50-minute session once or twice a week, then less frequently. Once an appointment has been set, it usually remains consistent, meaning, you will meet on the same day and at the same time. Psychotherapy can have benefits and risks. Risks may include experiencing uncomfortable levels of sadness, anxiety, anger, or frustration. People often report feeling worse before feeling better. However, these reports are a normal part of the therapeutic process when people are making important changes in their lives. While you consider the risks, you should also understand the benefits of therapy. Therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and reduction in feelings of distress. In therapy, you have the opportunity to voice your feelings, gain insight into factors that may contribute and maintain a problem, learn, as well as practice, techniques that may help you to improve coping skills or to resolve problems altogether. However, there can be no guarantees of what you will experience.
Keeping appropriate records of the psychological services is required by law. Although psychotherapy often includes discussions of sensitive and private information, normally very brief records are kept noting that you have been here, what was done in session, and a general mention of the topics discussed. Your records are maintained in a secure location in the office. Due to the nature of the relationship, confidentiality is vital to treatment progress. In all but a few rare situations, your confidentiality is protected by state law and by the rules of the profession. There are several situations in which confidentiality is not protected, including: (1) if you are a victim of child abuse; (2) if you a victim or perpetrator of elder or dependent adult abuse; (3) if you threaten harm to yourself, someone else, or the property of others; and (4) if you are court-ordered to treatment. Finally, when insurance companies are involved, there may be limits to confidentiality. Usually, insurance companies ask for information about duration of illness, psychiatric diagnosis, dates of service, name of treatment provider, treatment goals, and the details of the treatment session. In addition, providers are now required to sign waivers that allow the company to audit patient records.
